Choosing GPS trackers: hard-wired, battery or solar?

Not every asset needs the same tracker. Get the type right and you'll balance battery life, reporting frequency and install effort for the job in hand.

Hard-wired

Wired into a vehicle or powered equipment, these draw from the asset itself, so they're always on and can report frequently — ideal for fleets and plant with a power source.

Battery

Self-contained units that fit anything — trailers, containers, tools, unpowered plant. There's a trade-off between battery life and how often they report, so you tune the update interval to the use case.

Solar

For remote, long-term deployments, solar trackers top up from daylight and can run for years with no maintenance — perfect for assets that sit outdoors and rarely get touched.

Match the tracker to the job

Our Localizit division covers all three, with geofencing and alerts on one platform — so we can recommend the right mix rather than a one-size-fits-all box.
